Calibratable Hydrogen Measurement

for Hydrogen Trailers & Containers

GH2+ – legally verifiable metering system for hydrogen trailers and delivery vehicles

Legally compliant billing of highly compressed hydrogen deliveries. Compliant with national and international metrology standards  (f.e. the German Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG)), robust and reliable – designed to meet all requirements of hydrogen logistics.

Hydrogen deliveries must be measured with high precision – this is not optional, but a legal requirement. The Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG) stipulates that only approved, verifiable metering systems may be used for billing purposes. Non-compliance can result in significant fines and may jeopardize business relationships.

The GH2+ metering system from TrigasDM was specifically developed for this purpose: to measure and invoice highly compressed hydrogen in trailer vehicles in a legally compliant manner. The system is not only certified – it is field-proven. German hydrogen suppliers have been successfully using GH2+ in daily operations since October 2019.

GH2+ variants: KS (preconfigured) or KK (component-based)

Whether as preconfigured systems (KS variant) or as compact components for in-house integration (KK variant): GH2+ adapts to your requirements. Both variants are fully verifiable for calibration and comply with all requirements of the German Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG).

GH2+ KS variant (configured system)

The KS variant is a preconfigured, fully assembled unit. It is delivered with all necessary components and can be directly integrated into your trailer infrastructure. This option is ideal if you require a plug-and-play solution and have limited capacity for in-house system development.

GH2+ KK variant (component kit)

The KK variant offers maximum flexibility. You receive individual components (sensors, electronics, etc.) that can be directly integrated into your piping and system architecture. This option is ideal for trailer manufacturers looking to incorporate GH2+ into their own system designs.

Choose KS if you want rapid operational readiness. Choose KK if you require maximum flexibility for system integration.

MessEG compliance is not optional – it is a fundamental business requirement

The situation is clear: if you distribute or transport hydrogen, you require a verifiable, calibrated metering system. This is not only a technical requirement, but a legal obligation. Without a legally approved metering system, you cannot sell hydrogen – and your customers have no billing basis that will withstand regulatory scrutiny.

GH2+ was specifically developed to meet this compliance requirement reliably. The system is certified in accordance with the German Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG) and has been specifically optimized for the extreme demands of highly compressed hydrogen deliveries.

GH2+: robust engineering, fast service, secure billing

The GH2+ metering system combines three key characteristics required in hydrogen logistics: first, a robust design capable of handling the extreme conditions associated with highly compressed hydrogen; second, a proven, long-life construction ensuring reliable operation over many years; and third, a customer-friendly calibration concept that minimizes vehicle downtime.

The system was specifically designed for use in trailer vehicles and measures highly compressed hydrogen with the precision and reliability expected by your customers – and required by regulators. GH2+ is not only calibration-compliant but also practical: operation is intuitive, integration into existing systems is straightforward, and service is fast and uncomplicated.

Technical specifications – designed for highly compressed hydrogen

The GH2+ metering system is specialized for highly compressed hydrogen transported in trailer vehicles. This means extreme pressure conditions, stringent accuracy requirements, and absolute operational reliability.

The system operates reliably within a pressure range of 20 to 1048 bar, covering all common hydrogen delivery scenarios. Its measurement accuracy is maintained at a high level, ensuring precise billing without measurement deviations that could lead to disputes with customers.

The construction is highly robust: all pressure-bearing components are designed for operating temperatures from -50 to +120 °C. This is essential, as hydrogen is transported under highly varying climatic conditions across different regions and environments. GH2+ remains reliable wherever it is deployed.

Power supply is provided via 24 V DC – a standard already available in your vehicles, eliminating the need for complex system modifications.

Recalibration without downtime

Full-service logistics solution

The challenge:

2-years- recalibration for hundreds of trucks

The PTB mandates that all hydrogen dispensing systems must be recalibrated every two years. This is a non-negotiable legal requirement.

For hydrogen suppliers operating hundreds of trucks on the road, this translates into significant downtime, financial losses, and extensive coordination with regulatory authorities and calibration offices. It creates substantial administrative overhead that no logistics operator wants to manage.

The solution:

replacement instead of downtime

TrigasDM has designed the metering units as removable, exchangeable modules. This changes everything.

When a truck is due for recalibration, it is brought to one of our trained and certified service workshops. There, the existing unit is replaced during a standard maintenance procedure with a freshly calibrated unit – quickly, efficiently, and without delay, allowing the truck to return to service immediately.

The removed unit is then sent back to us for recalibration and recertification.

What happens next:

our logistics concept takes over

We collect the returned units at our accredited laboratory (TrigasFI). Once a sufficient number of units is ready for calibration, we independently coordinate the appointment with the official calibration authority. The inspector comes to our facility and calibrates all systems in a single session.

More efficient for the authorities. Significantly more cost-effective for you.

You don’t need to take care of anything.

Full service from a single source

Our logistics concept includes:

  • Management of all metering devices across your entire system
  • Due date monitoring – we inform you when the next inspection is required
  • Planning and coordination of calibration appointments
  • Metrological verification in cooperation with the calibration authority
  • Creation and archiving of all required documentation

Standby capacity: no waiting times, maximum flexibility

You can maintain a standby pool of ready-to-use, calibrated metering systems with us. When a truck arrives at the workshop for scheduled recalibration, a freshly calibrated unit is immediately available – with no lead times and no operational interruptions.

GH2 Source was developed to measure high-density hydrogen at the source’s delivery point for filling trailers. The flow measurement system stands out from competing systems thanks to its temperature-independent mass flow measurement and, thanks to its certification in accordance with the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance, guarantees legally compliant billing, high accuracy, and safe operation of the system.

The GH2 Hub from TrigasDM® is a stationary, calibratable flow measurement system for gaseous hydrogen, designed for unloading hydrogen trailers at stationary receiving points and trailer exchange stations. The system enables precise and legally compliant recording of the delivered H₂ volumes—regardless of fluctuating flow rates. GH2 Hub thus provides the legal basis for billing stationary hydrogen refueling in industrial applications.

Our RMS Hydrogen Reference Measurement System makes it possible to conduct a complete metrological inspection, for example, of a hydrogen refueling station, within a few hours. The measurement results from our RMS serve as the basis for the metrological inspection of the facility or for acceptance testing in accordance with SAE J2601. The measurement system is characterized by its compact size and can be easily transported in a passenger car. A measurement campaign can thus be carried out by a single person in approximately 3 or 4 hours.

The compact GH2+ system series was developed to measure and track highly compressed hydrogen transported in trailer vehicles. The metering system stands out from competing solutions through temperature-independent mass flow measurement and guarantees, thanks to certification in accordance with applicable national and international metrology standards, high accuracy and safe system operation.
