Calibrators for Gases

Recalibration, regular inspection and maintenance are important requirements for a safe and reliable operation of flow measuring instruments.

If you plan to do this inhouse with your own calibrators, TrigasDM supplies tailor-made solutions according to different functional principles for your application.

Sonic Nozzles

Critical nozzles are internationally recognised as one of the best and most accurate transfer standards.

The critical nozzle consists of a rounded inlet area that narrows to a constriction and then diverges into a pressure equalisation area or exit cone. The gas accelerates through the nozzle, reaching maximum velocity at the constriction where it reaches the speed of sound (Mach 1). The nozzle is operated by increasing pressure at the inlet or decreasing pressure at the outlet to achieve a pressure ratio of 1.4 or higher, which maintains the “choked” condition. In this state, the flow rate is only affected by the inlet pressure and temperature. Disturbances in the outlet pressure cannot affect the velocity and density of the gas, allowing a high measurement accuracy of ±0.25%.

Laminar Flow Elements (LFE)

Laminar flow elements are ideal for measuring small gas flow rates. Our CFlow+ LabVIEW based data acquisition software provides a user-friendly interface and ensures exceptional accuracy and stability through advanced calculation algorithms and compensation techniques.

The flow of gas through a laminar flow element (LFE) creates a pressure differential between the upstream and downstream pressure measurement points. This differential pressure is proportional to the flow velocity and viscosity of the gas according to the Hagen-Poiseuille law.

As LFEs have no moving parts, they are inherently stable and repeatable. Calibration in our DKD ISO 17025 certified flow laboratory ensures the best possible overall accuracy. A measuring range ratio of up to 20:1 is possible, with the differential pressure being linearly proportional to the flow rate. These features make LFEs an excellent choice for gas flow measurement and flow control applications.

Bell Provers

The bell prover, a primary standard for gas flow measurement, uses a precisely defined displaced volume at constant pressure to accurately determine the flow rate. As the gas flows through the measuring device under test, it is collected in the bell jar. This causes the bell to rise. As the bell rises, the flow rate is calculated using information provided by a rotary encoder and pressure and temperature sensors.

This type of calibrator offers truly exceptional accuracy and stability using state-of-the-art calculation algorithms and compensation techniques.
