Calibratable Hydrogen Measurement

Systems for Accurate Billing

Every pound counts. Compliant and traceable

Hydrogen suppliers, refueling stations, and industry rely on TrigasDM for metrological testing

in accordance with SAE J2601 and the German Measurement Act (MessEG)

Hydrogen is the energy source of the future – but only if billing is accurate.

Whether you’re a hydrogen supplier, a refueling station operator, or an industrial company: without traceable flow measurement, you cannot bill in compliance with legal requirements. Legal metrology regulations (f.e. German Measurement and Verification Act -MessEG) requires it. SAE J2601 mandates it. And your customers expect it.

TrigasDM specializes in exactly that. For years, we have been working with our partner TrigasFI (DAkkS-certified calibration laboratory according to ISO 17025) to develop hydrogen measurement systems that meet these requirements—not just on paper, but in practice.

You produce hydrogen using electrolysis plants or compressors and need to accurately record the output volume – for billing, traceability, and compliance.

✅ Calibratable according to MessEG: Legally compliant billing of produced H2 volumes
✅ High-precision measurement: ±1.5% (transitional flow to max)
✅ Wide pressure range: 20 to 1048 bar – for all production scenarios
✅ Plug & Play: Compact design for easy integration into existing or new plants – without costly modifications
✅ Flexible control: Automated via process control system or manually on-site – you determine the operation
✅ Robust design: Developed for continuous use in harsh industrial environments
✅ On-site calibration: Our mobile team comes to you (every 2 years). No long downtimes, no shipping costs.

GH2 Source flow measurement system
Hydrogen producers reduce their administrative processes by up to 40% through automated measurement and calibration management. At the same time, downtime is reduced by up to 80% compared to the shipping method thanks to on-site calibrations.

At your trailer exchange station, you unload hydrogen trailers at major customers’ sites or gas stations. The amount dispensed must be accurately measured and billed – in a legally compliant and traceable manner.

✅ Calibratable in accordance with legal metrology regulations” or MID (Measuring Instruments Directive): Legally compliant billing of dispensed H₂ volumes
✅ High dynamic range: One or two flow sensors cover flow rates from the smallest to the largest (0.075 to 24 kg/min) – flexible for all scenarios
✅ Precise measurement: ±2% measurement accuracy – even at varying flow rates
✅ Automatic mode or manual: Pressure sensors control automatically, or you manually control the required quantity
✅ Easy integration: Standard autoclave connection, optionally with a weatherproof enclosure for outdoor use
✅ Flexible power supply: 24 VDC or self-sufficient via solar module
✅ On-site calibration: Our mobile team comes to you (every 2 years). Minimal operational disruption, full control.

Hydrogen producers reduce their administrative processes by up to 40% through automated measurement and calibration management. At the same time, downtime caused by on-site calibrations is reduced by up to 80% compared to the shipping method.

You transport high-density hydrogen in trailers and need to measure the amount dispensed at gas stations or to industrial customers—in a legally compliant, precise, and verifiable manner.

✅ ✅ Calibratable in accordance with legal metrology regulations” or MID (Measuring Instruments Directive): Legally compliant billing. No disputes with customers.
✅ Temperature-independent flow measurement: Accurate readings, regardless of fluctuations in ambient temperature. That’s what sets us apart.
✅ Easy integration: Fits into existing trailer systems without major modifications
✅ Calibration service via exchange: Your vehicles stay on the road – no downtime
✅ Plug & Play: Quick integration, quick commissioning
✅ Proven technology: Approved by the PTB since October 2019 and in use

German hydrogen suppliers have been relying on GH2+ since 2019 – PTB-approved and field-proven. The result: zero billing disputes with customers. Thanks to temperature-independent mass flow measurement, the system reduces measurement uncertainty by up to 15% compared to standard solutions.

Your hydrogen fueling station must be inspected regularly (calibration, SAE J2601). If this requires external measurements, it costs time and money. Downtime is expensive.

✅ Complete inspection in 3–4 hours: One person, one system, portable size. That’s one-third the time of previous methods.
✅ On-site calibration possible: Your team performs the measurement—not external service providers. Controlled, fast, documented.
✅ SAE J2601 & Calibration Regulations: Meets all requirements. The measurement results serve as the basis for official inspections.
✅ Transportable by car: Compact enough for one person to take it to multiple gas stations.
✅ Flexible planning of measurement campaigns: Minimal operational disruption, maximum availability.

Average savings from faster inspections: ~60% less downtime per gas station per year. A measurement campaign costs less, takes less time and is fully documented.

  • DAkkS-certified calibration laboratory: Our partner TrigasFI performs calibrations in accordance with ISO 17025—the highest standard for measurement uncertainty in Europe.
  • Specialized calibrations tailored to your needs: Not standard off-the-shelf solutions, but customized to your process requirements.
  • On-site calibrations available: We come to you – your systems remain in operation.
  • Long-term partnership: Regular calibrations, maintenance, support – all from a single source.
  • Highest precision: Measurement uncertainty < 1.5% (one of the most precise solutions worldwide).

Whether in steel production, the chemical industry, or the energy sector: Hydrogen is a critical raw material or reducing agent. Inaccurate measurements lead to production errors, loss of quality, or incorrect billing.

GH2 Source was developed to measure high-density hydrogen at the source’s delivery point for filling trailers. The flow measurement system stands out from competing systems thanks to its temperature-independent mass flow measurement and, thanks to its certification in accordance with the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance, guarantees legally compliant billing, high accuracy, and safe operation of the system.

The compact GH2+ system series was developed to measure and track highly compressed hydrogen transported in trailer vehicles. The metering system stands out from competing solutions through temperature-independent mass flow measurement and guarantees, thanks to certification in accordance with applicable national and international metrology standards, high accuracy and safe system operation.

The GH2 Hub from TrigasDM® is a stationary, calibratable flow measurement system for gaseous hydrogen, designed for unloading hydrogen trailers at stationary receiving points and trailer exchange stations. The system enables precise and legally compliant recording of the delivered H₂ volumes—regardless of fluctuating flow rates. GH2 Hub thus provides the legal basis for billing stationary hydrogen refueling in industrial applications.

Our RMS Hydrogen Reference Measurement System makes it possible to conduct a complete metrological inspection, for example, of a hydrogen refueling station, within a few hours. The measurement results from our RMS serve as the basis for the metrological inspection of the facility or for acceptance testing in accordance with SAE J2601. The measurement system is characterized by its compact size and can be easily transported in a passenger car. A measurement campaign can thus be carried out by a single person in approximately 3 or 4 hours.
